Jose Mourinho has set his sights on bringing Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso to Chelsea in the summer, according to Daily Mail.
The Spain international has not yet played for Los Blancos this season after undergoing surgery on a broken bone in his right foot but he has now returned to training.
The 31-year-olds contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of the season leaving the player free to agree a deal with other clubs this January.
Alonso was one of the key members of Mourinhos first-team during his reign as Real Madrid manager and reunion at Chelsea is now very likely as the midfielder has taken the decision to leave the club, according to a report in Spanish newspaper Marca.com.
Mourinho is understood to be keeping tabs on Alonsos situation at Real and could get the Spaniard to sign on a free transfer in January ahead of a move in the summer.
